Welcome to our video series on the manufacturing process of reclaimed wood flooring! We are proud to complete every stage of the process in Berryville, Virginia, and believe that the care we take in manufacturing produces a superior product.
In this series, we will be taking a detailed look at how reclaimed wood is sourced, processed, and transformed into beautiful and durable flooring for homes and businesses. We will explore the different techniques used to bring out the natural character and patina of the wood, as well as the modern technologies used to ensure the stability and longevity of the final product. Whether you’re a homeowner, contractor, or simply interested in sustainable building materials, this series is sure to provide valuable insights into the world of reclaimed wood flooring.
It’s been a long process! We’re closing in on the end and there are only a few things left to do.
Finishing Touches.
When our reclaimed boards have gone through almost the entire process, they go into the end matcher. This adds the tongue and groove to either end of the boards.
The tongue and groove joint is a type of joint used to connect two pieces of wood together. It is formed by cutting a groove (slot) on one board and a tongue (protrusion) on the other board that fits snugly into the groove. When we fit the two pieces together, the tongue and groove joint creates a strong, secure, and seamless connection.
Quality Control.
To ensure that only high-quality reclaimed wood is used in the production process, the boards go through a rigorous quality control inspection. This involves examining each board individually to identify any defects or imperfections.
In reclaimed wood, you might find anything from cracks to old bullet holes that can compromise the structure of the wood. Once we identify a defect, our guys mark it with a crayon. The crayon marks indicate where the machine should cut off the defective part of the board. This process is highly precise and accurate, as the machines are equipped with advanced technology that can actually read the crayon marks and make precise cuts where they are needed.
These steps may seem small, but they make a huge difference in the final products you receive. By going the extra mile to ensure that the reclaimed wood is of the highest quality, we can create unique and sustainable products that not only look great but are also built to last.
