Meet Michelle
At Cochran’s Lumber, we believe that our people make a difference. Many employees have been here for decades, and their breadth of knowledge is a valuable resource we pass along to our clients.
Michelle manages our Sample Department. She works hard behind the scenes to make ensure that Cochran’s clients are in love with the flooring they purchase.
While online resources provide a starting point, it’s important to see a color, stain, and finish in person before investing in your flooring. Michelle custom packs Sample Boxes for clients and includes options that make sense based on the rest of your order.
Solid Knowledge of Custom Flooring
She’s familiar with almost every floor we’ve produced, she’s in touch with production and understands our capabilities.
If you don’t love any of the options in your order, she’ll be the one to pack a second box and to keep working until you find a perfect solution. In addition to being a Cochran’s expert, she’s also just a really nice person.

“I’ve worked at Cochran’s for 12 years in July.”
What’s the best part of your job?
“I can say that I really like what I do. I enjoy the whole process; from pulling samples off the shelf, to shipping them out the door.”
Walk us through the Sample Box process
“I don’t typically work directly with our customers. The conversation that happens between our Salesmen and the customers is important to make sure that we are sending out options that the customer wants, at a price point that fits their budget.”
“Once I receive an order, I’ll pull from the sample inventory, or put in an order for any custom samples I need. Each sample gets labeled with a sticker that lists: species, color, finish, and contact info for the shop. I like to add extra things in so our customers can see options.
Next, I download pictures of what I’m sending onto the work order so the salesman can see exactly what’s been sent. This helps with the follow-up conversation.”
How quickly do orders usually ship out?
“If the samples are on the shelf I can send them out within a day or two. Special requests take a couple of weeks. Our Production Department runs custom work as they are able to. Every sample board goes through the exact same process as the flooring we sell.”
What are the currently most requested samples?
Right now the sample requests are trending towards grey and natural tones. Lighter wood, matte finishes, farmhouse look, and tobacco wood are popular.
What’s your personal favorite Cochran’s floor?
My favorite Cochran’s floor is Antique Oak Distressed. I really like Horse Country Oak Milled, too.
Where can we find you when you’re not at work?
When not at work, I enjoy being with family. My husband and I love to camp and take our dog along as often as we can.
