For our October Newsletter – INSPIRATIONS, Cochran’s Lumber was delighted to sit down with Coe Eldredge, president of University Group, LLC. We are proud to feature University Group’s stunning Waterford remodel and their use of our rustic flooring and beams. In addition, we also highlight our flooring at the recently completed Creighton Farm’s Fitness Center and our reclaimed beams and barn board featured in Somerville Homes’s newly completed custom home in Vienna, Virginia.
Client Spotlight:
University Group, LLC.
Please give us an overview of University Group, LLC.
University Group has been building custom homes in Western Loudoun, Northern Fauquier and Clarke County since the early 1990’s. Working with local architects and also with “in house” design capabilities, University Group has built in a wide array of architectural styles, shapes and sizes in order to meet our client’s wishes and budgets.
What distinguishes University Group from other custom home builders in the Western Loudoun area?
Having grown up in the area, Coe Eldredge has an appreciation for local architecture and an excellent sense of what fits a specific property and the area at large. Using a combination of locally sourced and time honored materials, University Group is able to achieve having a new house look appropriate with the surroundings. “A compliment that really pleases us is when people mistake a recently built home for something they think has been there 100 years”. Using stone, wood, traditional stucco, metal roofing, salvaged timbers; combined with modern systems cleverly blended into the interior gives our clients the best of both worlds.
Many of Cochran’s products were selected for a recently completed custom home in Waterford, Virginia. Please tell us more about what products were used and why they were chosen.
This large scale renovation, and the adding on of significant new space, to what was once a contemporary house was a challenge for all involved. The owners wanted a more natural, rustic feel to their home versus what was a stark angular home that they started with. The introduction of antique oak distressed flooring, rough sawn oak timbers both inside and at the entry helped to soften the feel of the home and too also let the original areas flow and tie into the new areas.
Why have you selected Cochran’s for past projects? What distinguishes our flooring and millwork from other providers?
Cochran’s specializes in many of the products that we look for in order to accomplish our overall design goals of building a “new” old house. We particularly like that they will salvage materials from older structures (barns, cabins, fences) so that these may be used again and have a new life and purpose.
